Canada!!! Campobello Island and Deer Island and the adventures in between!

 Saying good bye to our friends Victor and Mae in Lubec, Maine.. Finally the storm has let up and we can continue in to Canada (across the bridge)

On Canadian Campobello Island

 Since the ferry between Campobello and Deer Island is not yet running (we wanted to avoid turning around and biking back the way we came) we got a hook up with some Canadian lobster fisherman, Harvey and Scott, awesome guys, who took us (and our bikes) across on their rig, the Krystal Dawn. 

 Pretty awesome.

 Coming down the steep ramp with our bikes and trailers (this is in the Bay of Fundy...) was quite difficult. 

 The ocean was raging that day.  None of the locals in Maine were willing to make the trip--the Canadians said they are woosies, or something to that affect. They thought we were going to get sick.  We were rocking a ton and had to hold on, tightly.  It was exciting : )

 "Will, we mine as well hoist 'em up, we got a winch right here!"  (They had great accents).  We kind of thought they were joking at first. But it worked out great!!!

Deer Island.  They reccomended this place "Fisherman's Cove Cafe" -- "Lots of food and pretty cheap too!"  We were quite eager to find it. And it was, indeed, very scrumptious.

 On the public ferry crossing to the mainland of New Brunswick.  The captain, Christopher Keith Pendleton, invited us up to the wheelhouse to get out of the wind and cold.  He was great too.  What nice people there are in the world.

 We walked through a few beautiful cemeteries in Machias (Ma-CHI-us...) Early colonial history here, some in this cemetery were around for the revolution and took part in some of the first battles.

 Many beautiful old churches here!

 We met Rob Abraham (middle) at church--a little awesome branch we made it to--who ran a lodge next door he said we could "freshen up" in.  He ended up putting us in an really nice apartment for the night and bringing us tons of meat and chocolate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Brother Abraham Rocks :)

 We found the way to Canada!  Almost there!!!!!

 So, we got caught in a Nasty wind/sideways rain storm.  We were cold and wet, but that wasn't the real problem.  The problem is that the ferry on this route we planned is not running for another month and the weather was way too bad for any locals to take us across to the next island.  NOwhere was open in Lubec to get a bite to eat/get warm. We ended up finding repreive in a tour building office on the Wharf.  Super nice people there actually run the inn (converted from an old Sardine factory).  Are giving us a good deal for the two-night stay (the storm still hasn't let up).  Best part: Victor, the friend we made who owns the inn, took us downstairs to this periwinkle farm they have where he had tons of live lobster.  He let us all chose one for a good price :)

We then feasted.  It was delicious.  Looks like we'll be getting out of here tomorrow with a Canadian fisherman's help.

I LOVE bike touring!!!!! (so far..)

Well, it took us three days to get to Bangor instead of one, but we are now in Maine on the second official day of our bike tour!  We stopped at the Library in the little town of Sullivan to post an update :)  Keith and I ended up getting a room at a hotel across the street from the bike shop we had had our bike sent to so that we could have somewhere out of the rain to put together our bike and get everything organized and packed in our trailer and panniers.  It was exciting to see everything come together!  We met up with our buddies yesterday morning and biked about 40 miles--a good first day's mileage.  WE LOVE OUR BIKE!!!!!  It is awesome.  Way worth it to be able to pedal separately and coast at our own free will.. When one of us is pedaling and the other is coasting it sounds like a big catch running with the bait.. taking the line.. so I can't coast secretly darn it.  The good thing about a tandem is that I can pinch Keith's bum any time I want and he can't do anything about it.  However, I am facing an entire summer of being downwind of Keith's stinky armpits..  We have been blessed with pretty nice weather so far.  Our bottoms are indeed sore, but our moral is high.  We found a nice place to camp last night off the highway in some trees--the toads chirping loudly.  Had some white cheddar Macaroni with some Peperoni in it cooked on our MSR Dragonfly for dinner.  Maine is really nice! Beautiful old houses, green grass everywhere, tons of crab pots laying around, very friendly locals.. We have just reached the ocean here and will indeed put at least a foot in the water before the day is through so we can do the same when we reach the pacific in four months.  This is going to be Great : )
