On with Ontario -- Grand Portage Westward

Well, we successfully crossed Isle Royale on foot with time to spare before meeting up with our bike and hopping on the ferry from the far side of the island back to the mainland on the North side of Lake Superior, at Grand Portage, Wisconsin.  Very dirty and very tired, we stayed at a campground near the ferry terminal that night and enjoyed a nice sunset over the lake as our laundry soaked and tumbled.  We were camped with a motorcycle tourist on each side of us-- two awesome guys-- whom we had a great time getting to know and swapping stories with.

We crossed into Minnesota the next morning after a few miles of biking.

The 'border lands'... crossed into Canada again near the end of our day, after stocking up on donuts in the U.S.  Canada's gas 'bars' don't believe in those.

And back to Ontario, where there is, apparently, more to discover.

I wish I could remember the name of these falls because they were some of my favorite I have ever seen.  They continue on (past the picture) cascading over varied layers of rock... swelling across flat parts and tumbling down geometric stairs... I could have watched this for hours, but the Mennonite family picnicing nearby kept eyeing my bike shorts and we felt the ever present pull to keep movin' on.

We found a great place to camp that night, on a red dirt plateau near these railroad tracks.  We put some coins on them and two trains passed while we were swimming in a secret lake we found-- flattened our coin :)

Bushwacking through "the jungle" to find a spot we could take a dip.

Ah! What a remarkable place we found.

Just a little natural jacuzzi.

Searching out our coins.

Cool catepillar, eh?  We helped him cross the road.  Why did the catepillar cross the road?  Because he wasn't a chicken.  Ha, just made that one up.

COOL! huh?!  Look at it up close! So weird!

ANOTHER awesome catepillar : D  Ontario?  Who'da thunk?

Try it.  I dare you.  I think I got it the seventh time.

Lots of this.

We had to stop and look at this "cute" little chapel.  Learned that a blacksmith had made the cross in the 30s for their local chapel and the church had later burned down--everything ashes except, "miraculously," the steeple and cross.  In the 80s some people got together to build this tiny little church so they could use the original steeple and cross.

Very interesting weather moving across the plains... We sure have seen some unusual/ intense clouds on our days on the road.  It was So hot and humid at this moment (we had stopped to eat lunch).  The oppressive heat felt like we were in a very hot sauna.
